Fat-dissolving injections
Lemon Bottle / Aqualyx / deoxycholic acid / Kybella / lipolysis shots · Cosmetic injectable (lipolysis)
What it is
Injectables marketed to dissolve localized fat: one FDA-approved product exists (deoxycholic acid / Kybella, for under-chin fat, physician-administered), surrounded by unapproved "lipolysis solutions" — Lemon Bottle (a riboflavin/lecithin/bromelain mix) being the best-known.
What human evidence shows
Kybella has RCTs for one small anatomical area. Lemon Bottle and its cousins have no published controlled evidence at all — the viral before/afters are marketing, and the ingredient list does not contain an established lipolytic mechanism at cosmetic doses.
Risks
Kybella's own trials document swelling, nodules, numbness, and rare marginal-mandibular nerve injury — with a physician injecting. Unapproved injections add infection, scarring, tissue injury (necrosis case reports exist in the aesthetics literature), and total composition uncertainty.
Legal status
US: Kybella is prescription/physician-use. The FDA has warned that unapproved fat-dissolving injections are unapproved drugs and can be harmful — a product marketed to alter body structure is a drug regardless of "cosmetic" labeling.
Evidence base
Not auto-graded. This entry covers several different drugs, or a use the published research was never about, so no single letter honestly describes it. The reading below is real literature — read it against what this page says, not as a score.
